Welcome to The David Navon Foundation  ●  In Memoriam  1927 - 2005

After David marriage, they had their first child and unfortunately died at birth. Two years later they had another child and named her Dora. They never realized that Dora was to face a lot of challenges.

Five years after Dora's birth, David and Aida had a son by the name of Moises. Moises took after his father in likeness and character.

David's future was bright. He was co-owner of Concord Textile, a manufacture and distributor of Ribbons and Fabric in Havana Cuba. He worked day and night to make the company successful and with the money he saved he was able to purchase land to build a new home and lay down the foundation for a good life with his wife and children.

In the early 60's Fidel Castro's regime took away his life and dreams. The newly form communist government stole his business and building, his house and his land, his hard earned money and literately the clothes on his back. His co-partner and best friend from childhood died of a massive heart attack due to the stress. David and his family seek political asylum.

With the help of a religious non-profit organization, David Navon and his family left Cuba to the United States. The organization found David a job in Cincinnati, Ohio working for the Leather Specialty Company where he was in charge of cutting leather to manufacture briefcases. During the years in Cincinnati, David and his family went through the trials and tribulation of learning a new language, culture and endured the harsh cold weather of the north. The family fell ill to numerous diseases.  David later found out that his daughter Dora had trouble in school and was later diagnose with Mental Retardation. Dora later became a paranoid schizophrenic and became violent as years progressed. She was overly aggressive towards the family and was later prescribed medications. She was admitted to a half-way house, where she lived for many years. She became hospitalized numerous times. The cost of hospitalization put a burden on the family.
